September 26, 2011 Alabama Town Orders Small Time Offenders To Attend Church — Or It Will Throw Them In Jail | ThinkProgress
This program isn’t just unconstitutional, it is unconstitutional even under conservative Justice Antonin Scalia’s vision of the Constitution’s Establishment Clause. In his dissenting opinion in Lee v. Weisman, Scalia wrote that the state may not us the “threat of penalty” to “coerce anyone to support or participate in religion or its exercise.” Telling someone — even someone convicted of a crime — that they must participate in a religious service or go to jail clearly fails Justice Scalia’s test.
Tali and Marcus were able to view and photograph the beautiful and enigmatic original paintings and have agreed with the owners to bring out a book (in color and b&w) of the major twenty-two images with full commentary prior to Christmas 2011.
The commentary will be based on Waite’s unpublished and extensive commentary on the images, which has led to a complete mapping of Waite’s “secret” correspondences to the Tree of Life. Marcus says that this set of correspondences is so blindingly obvious and “makes sense,” such that he believes we will be astounded. It will be interesting to see if the mapping corresponds with the revised Tree of Life described in Decker and Dummett’s book. Also, this clears up a long-running controversy about whether the Rider-Waite-Smith deck was designed with Golden Dawn Tree of Life Associations in mind. My feeling is that it was, as Waite clearly uses these associations in some of his Order papers, but it’s also clear that he wasn’t really satisfied with them.
Michael Oliveri, 25, of Oradell, has been wheelchair-bound since he was 18 due to muscular dystrophy. Years of powerful prescription drugs have left him permanently nauseous, but there is one medication he says helps relieve his pain and gives him an appetite. The only problem is that it’s a federally banned substance — marijuana. Oliveri and other patients suffering from debilitating diseases like multiple sclerosis or AIDS wasting syndrome have been fighting for a medical marijuana law in New Jersey. State lawmakers are widely expected to vote on the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act before the end of the year and Gov. Jon Corzine has indicated he would sign the bill. If enacted, New Jersey would become the 14th state to legalize marijuana for medical use. Opponents of the bill point to abuse of the law in California, the first state to legalize medical marijuana, as a precursor of what’s to come in New Jersey.
While using marijuana to kill cancer may sound like a wild claim to some, it struck Dr. Prakash Nagarkatti as a great idea. In his studies as professor of pathology and microbiology for the University of South Carolina, he tested synthetic cannabis drugs on cancer cells and developed a formula that was able to completely eradicate cancer cells in a test tube.
A follow-up on mice afflicted with cancer found that up to 30 percent in the test group completely rejected their disease, while others had their tumors significantly reduced. The same drug is now being tested on humans with Leukemia.
August 27, 2011 Appleton man, David W. Feldstein, says marijuana charges against him are unconstitutional
Defense attorney David Penn argued in court documents that placing marijuana on the list of Schedule 1 substances is “arbitrary and irrational.” He pointed to medical marijuana laws in several states.
“The state has not argued nor demonstrated by any scientific or medical information whatsoever that marijuana has a high potential for abuse,” Penn wrote.
Penn further argues the state’s Controlled Substances Board violated Feldstein’s rights to due process and equal protection by classifying marijuana a Schedule 1 substance.
The authors of these investigations have accordingly derived that the administration of THC in combination with TMZ “enhanced autophagy” (programmed cell death) in malignant tissue. According to them, “The combined administration of THC, CBD, and TMZ remarkably reduced the growth of glioma xenografts … [and] produced a strong antitumoral action in both TMZ-sensitive and TMZ-resistant tumors. Altogether, our findings support that the combined administration of TMZ and cannabinoids could be therapeutically exploited for the management of GBM (gliobastoma multiforme).”
Earlier in the year 2006 a study was published in the British Journal of Cancer. This study had reported that the intra-tumoural administration of THC is associated with reduced tumor cell proliferation in two out of nine human subjects with GBM (which is highly resistant to conventional anti-cancer treatments).
